Abstract
Virtually all mills located in Canada have at least considered, or implemented scanning technology. Scanning not only enables mills to ensure that closer to optimum recovery and productivity is obtained, but it also avails the opportunity to manage more efficiently operations and provide a basis for quality and operations control.

Abstract
Ce rapport presente les resultats obtenus dans la recherche de Robert Beauregard, etudiant au doctorat au Departement des Sciences du Bois de l'Universite Laval. Les travaux de Robert portent sur la mise au point d'une methodologie de diagnostic d'usine de sciage qui utilise l'approche systemique. Les resultats sont presentes dans deux articles. Le premier presente de facon theorique la methodologie et le formalisme de la methode diagnostique developpee par Robert. Le second expose deux etudes de cas effectuees dans une scierie independante et dans une scierie integree a une compagnie papetiere. Le premier papier a ete soumis pour publication au Wood and Fibre Science Journal. Le second n'est qu'une ebauche d'un article qui sera aussi soumis a une revue scientifique.
