Abstract
FERIC's study examined the potential of intensive site preparation based on a double treatment (brushcutting plus harrowing) as an alternative to expensive mulching techniques for stand conversion. Although the proposed technique did not work the soil as completely as mulching, it significantly decreased treatment costs.

Abstract
L’étude consistait à examiner les possibilités offertes par une méthode intensive de préparation de terrain avec double traitement (débroussaillage et hersage) comme solution de remplacement aux techniques coûteuses de broyage pour la conversion de peuplement. Bien qu’elle ne permette pas un travail du sol aussi complet que le broyage, la technique proposée diminue les coûts du traitement de façon notable.

Cette technique est relativement coûteuse (0.24$/placeau), mais elle semble intéressante pour une densité de placeaux peu élevée et là où il faut limiter les déplacements d'équipement afin de réduire la perturbation du sol.
