Abstract
This is probably how this eight-year-old project is perceived, so let's try to unravel this mystery! In September 1997, the Waswanipi Cree Model Forest (WCMF) project joined the Canadian Model Forest Network sponsored by the Canadian Forest Service of Natural Resources Canada. This network, consisting of 11 sites across Canada and covering some 20 million hectares, is driven by a group of partners seeking innovative solutions and approaches to more sustainable forest resource management. It was formed in 1992 following a nationwide call for applications and is currently in its third five-year phase (2002-2007). It continues to expand internationally with over 20 projects in 13 other countries.
