Abstract
Environmentally compatible oils are now available in Canada and the first trials have been completed. This Technical Note summarizes the differences between hydraulic fluids based on mineral oils and new environmentally compatible oils, how to verify a machine's compatibility with these new oils, how to chose a hydraulic bio-oil, the required oil change procedures and how to monitor the machine's operational performance.

Abstract
FERIC tested four bypass filters to confirm the results of previous studies, in which bypass filters extended engine oil-change intervals and kept hydraulic oil cleaner than standard filters. Each brand of filter in the current study increased the oil-change interval, with a potential payback period ranging from less than 1 year (filtering engine oil in machines returned to a garage for oil changes) to 4 years (in a hydraulic system whose oil-change interval was extended from 1 year to 3 years).

Abstract
In an attempt to reduce fuel consumption and operation costs, especially during cold weather, the two drive axles of a logging truck were insulated to raise the temperatures of the lubricating oils. Thus the oil viscosity and consequently the energy losses owing to oils churning would be reduced. The temperature of the oil in the forward rear axle was recorded continuously for a 240 KM round trip of a logging truck. Insulation details have also been described.

Abstract
Dans une tentative pour réduire la consommation de carburant et les coûts de fonctionnement, particulièrement en saison froide, les deux essieux moteurs d'un camion grumier ont été isolés de façon a élever les températures des huiles lubrifiantes. On espérait ainsi diminuer la viscosité de celles-ci et, par suite, les pertes énergétiques dues au brassage de l'huile. La température de l'huile dans l'essieu avant- arrière a été enregistrée de façon continue durant un trajet aller- retour de 240km parcouru par un camion grumier. Le rapport décrit également les détails de l'isolation.
