Abstract
This report presents the development highlights for the BiOS app completed in 2018-2019 by FPI. An updated methodology is defined to help FLNRORD fully integrate the BiOS app data point collection into the Forest BioGis web platform. A visual roadside pile volume estimator was also developed and implemented into the BiOS app. This visual estimator will need to be calibrated and further developed with roadside pile recovery trials performed in various BC conditions. Finally, a four-year development plan is proposed to have a fully validated set of tools in the Forest BioGIS web platform and the BiOS app.

Abstract
Several thousand hectares of non-commercial softwood forests are thinned each year in Eastern Canada. Although this intervention is justified by the logic of reducing competition between stems, thus competition between stems, thus favouring the growth of residual trees, few studies with quantitative data on the long-term effects of thinning of precommercial thinning (PCT) are available. How does this treatment actually influence tree growth? What are the long-term impacts on fiber quality and quality and value of the fiber?
Abstract
Plusieurs milliers d’hectares de forêts résineuses non commerciales sont éclaircis chaque année dans l’Est du Canada. Bien que cette intervention soit justifiée par la logique de diminuer la compétition entre les tiges, favorisant ainsi la croissance des arbres résiduels, peu d’études comportant des données quantitatives sur les effets à long terme de l’éclaircie précommerciale (EPC) sont disponibles. Comment ce traitement influence-t-il réellement la croissance des arbres? Quelles sont les incidences à long terme sur la qualité et la valeur de la fibre ?

Abstract
The Forest Engineering Research Institute of Canada (FERIC) estimated the costs of harvesting, comminuting, and transporting pine trees killed by the mountain pine beetle in the central Interior of British Columbia. Costs were based on computer models that used three different harvesting systems depending on the ratio of sawlogs to fuelwood in the stand. For stands with less than 50% fuelwood, the existing roadside harvesting system was used to harvest sawlogs and generate roadside residuals, followed by a separate operation to comminute and transport the feedstock. This system had the lowest cost. Stands with 50-95% fuelwood were costed using a satellite sortyard. This system was best suited to sort the sawlogs from stands containing predominantly fuelwood, but it also had the highest cost.

Abstract
FERIC a évalué l'effet du volume moyen par tige, de dispositions différentes du réseau de sentiers, ainsi que la variation du taux de prélèvement sur la productivité en éclaircie commerciale d'une abatteuse-façonneuse. Le volume par tige contribuait plus que les autres facteurs à expliquer la productivité, mais le type de réseau de sentiers et le taux de prélèvement peuvent chacun causer des variations de 0,5 m3/HMP pour un volume moyen par tige.

FERIC evaluated the effect of average stem volume, of different trail network layouts, and of variations in the removal intensity on the productivity of a single-grip harvester in commercial thinning. Stem volume contributed more than the other two factors to explaining productivity, but at average stem volumes, the type of trail network and the removal intensity could both affect productivity by about 0.5 m3/PMH.
