FERIC monitored the hydraulic system temperatures of a sample of delimbers and graders operating in the boreal forest of northern Ontario to obtain typical performance data during both summer and winter. The goal of the study was to permit a comparison of the performance of seasonal and year-round hydraulic oils. The report notes mechanical design problems with typical systems, and compares the advantages and disadvantages of the two types of oil.
