In practice, fire-safety requirements for the design of glued-laminated members are addressed following the architectural and structural design processes. The purpose of this project was to develop a simple method to integrate or optimise the design of glulam columns and beams to meet both structural and fire-resistance requirements established by building regulations. Feasible solutions have been developed and cast in the form of guidelines and rules of thumb which, if implemented, would ensure that architectural and structural design automatically addresses fire-resistance issues.
