A short-term study of the Swedish Vimek G30 farm tractor-mounted processor was conducted in Quebec and New Brunswick on a clearcut and a thinning operation. The machine had good results in small-diameter wood. The winching function worked well with its unique choking system. In general, delimbing quality was good although large branches were a problem bolt length was not uniform and piles were uneven. Productivity ranged from 5.36 to 8.66 M**3, PMH. The cost was $12.57, M**3 for full time operation. A supplementary literature review showed productivities of 1.54 to 6.28 M**3, PMH. capital cost and skill level required for operation limit the processor's use to full-time operators such as contractors and woodlot owner groups.
