With the mandate of all heavy-duty trucks and tractors in North America to be equipped with electronic stability control (ESC) due in 2019 and ESC on three-axle trucks and tractors manufactured in the U.S. and Canada already mandated; the implication of this system’s use on resource roads remains unknown. Therefore, a study was conducted on a fleet of four ESC-equipped tractors and two non-ESC tractors hauling wood chips from the forest. In this report, the driver and fleet supervisors’ feedback, ESC lifetime and study period activations, and ESC system performance on resource roads were investigated.
