Wood transportation can represent up to 50% of the cost of supplying fiber to a wood processing plant and fuel consumption accounts for 30% of transportation costs. In a context of market globalization where the forest industry must remain competitive, it is seeking to reduce its costs, and this, at a time when fuel prices are constantly increasing and sources of mature wood supply are dispersed and increasingly distant from the mills.
