The Forest Engineering Research Institute of Canada (FERIC) evaluated the recovery, quality, and cost of aspen chips produced from an in-woods operation near Peace River, Alberta. The analysis included chips from unfrozen and frozen stems of different butt and top diameters. FERIC also identified factors that would be affected when changing the location of the chipping operation from the woodroom to the harvesting site.
