Forest fuel treatments are commonly applied in the wildland-urban interface (WUI) to mitigate wildfire and reduce the potential for catastrophic loss of values. Fuels managers use general fuel management guidelines and best practices (FireSmart Canada ) in designing and applying fuel treatments to moderate the impacts of wildfire in the WUI and at a landscape level. Because of the limited documentation of wildfire encounters with fuel treatments, the efficacy of these fuel treatments across a broad range of fire environments and hazard conditions is not well understood. This project has been supported by Yukon Wildland Fire Management.
