In western Canada, logs are often stored in logyards near mills in order to provide inventory for mill operation when harvesting cannot be carried out. The Forest Engineering Research Institute of Canada (FERIC) conducted a study to measure the loss of lumber recovery and value caused by the drying that logs incur while being stored in a logyard.
