Deep energy retrofitting of existing buildings has become critically important to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions from the built environment. It will also conserve older buildings and make them more comfortable, durable, and climate resilient. One of the most effective approaches is exterior retrofitting through adding prefabricated insulative panels to the exterior walls and roofs to improve the thermal performance of building envelopes. This document provides an overview of the development and demonstration of a wood fibre insulation-based energy panel for exterior energy retrofit. Compared to other energy panel products on the market, this wood fibre insulation-based panel further reduces carbon emissions due to the lower embodied carbon in wood-based products. The panel can be conveniently fabricated in factory for applications in both energy retrofit and new construction.
