The Bräcke badger was evaluated in a 3-row with 2 metre spacing configuration to determine any advantages or disadvantages the badger may offer over the conventional 2-row Bräcke cultivator. The Badger was evaluated in one short-term study as well as shift-level studies at two locations. The badger demonstrated high productivity in the short- and long-term studies. Although direct comparisons of 2- and 3-row machines were not feasible, there appears to be no reason why the 50% productivity increase per productive hour of the wider machine cannot be achieved. Therefore, the cost per hectare of the badger can be more or less than the cultivator, depending primarily on the cost of the larger prime mover that is required and the number of scheduled hours. The main advantage of the badger is its versatility in that it can be matched with various sites and silvicultural prescriptions.
